Player Evaluations
BVGSA host Player Evaluations to evaluate new and some returning softball players participating in the 8u - 16u divisions. These assessments assist our head coaches in creating balanced and competitive teams each season. Attendance at Player Evaluations is REQUIRED. There will be no Player Evaluations for 6u Division. Note: BVGSA Board only oversees the evaluations and the draft. The head coaches will draft their own teams. Emails with specific dates and times for division evaluations will be sent out after registration has closed. The dates for evaluations are listed on the tentative schedule for the season which is listed under the registration tab and on the receipt that is emailed once your registration is completed.
- WHAT TO BRING: Players can wear shorts OR softball pants and a t-shirt. ALL players need to bring their own glove. If a player has their own bat and/or helmet, please bring those as well but we will have bats & helmets available for players to use. Players are encouraged to wear softball cleats but can also wear athletic tennis shoes of their choice. NO METAL CLEATS!
- WHAT TO EXPECT: Players will arrive at their divisions scheduled time and will rotate through stations performing different drills. The stations include:
Hitting, Fielding at Short Stop and Catching at First Base. Once a player has completed all the stations, they may leave unless they are a pitcher and/or catcher. Pitching/Catcher evaluations (10u-16u divisions only): Pitchers & Catchers will be evaluated after all players have completed the stations.
Evaluations give our coaches an idea of each player’s ability in order to make the draft process as fair as possible. All players, except children of head coaches and players returning to their previous seasons team, must attend Player Evaluations in order to be eligible for the draft. ALL PLAYERS WILL MAKE A TEAM. However, those not attending Player Evaluations will be drafted alphabetically by their last name in their division after all the draft-eligible players have been selected. This is to avoid "ringers" skipping evaluations in an attempt to be drafted to a specific team.
